Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHS) Levels and Toxicity in Herbal Teas Marketed in Malaysia using Quechers and GC-FID

چکیده

In line with the growing health trend in Malaysia, more consumers drink herbal tea for medicinal benefits. However, products could be contaminated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from various production sources. There is a little study focused on detection of PAHs species distributed Malaysia. This was performed to investigate content and toxicity selected commercial teas A total seven different Malaysian samples were extracted using QuEChERS extraction method contamination level evaluated gas chromatography (GC) flame ionization detector (FID). The 10 (∑10PAHs) ranged 2.53 9.39 µg/kg. Acenaphthene, fluorene, phenanthrene anthracene most abundant compounds 53% contribution all content. All tested showed low toxic equivalency (TEQ) values ranging 0.0027 0.1148. least Strobilanthes crispus, Senna alata, Orthosiphon aristatus, Clinacanthus nutans, Stevia rebaudiana.

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Plants of Shadegan Wetland: Halocnemum strobilaceum and Suaeda maritima

Plants are known to bioaccumulate many contaminants. Petroleum-derived compounds, such as saturated hydrocarbons and PAHs are widespread persistent environmental contaminants. Deposition of soot and precipitation of black rain have occurred in the Shadegan Wetland. In this study, PAHs in plant parts of two prominent species of halophytes, Halocnemum strobilaceum and Suaeda maritima were determi...

POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS (PAHs) IN FINE AND COARSE PARTICLES

About 140 samplings of fine and coarse particles were gathered during the year 2006 in Kozani that represent an urban area surrounded by opencast coal mining. A low volume dichotomus sampler has been used to trap suspended particles. The filters used were teflon, which are ideal for analysis in the determination of PAHs. The determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) has been carr...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) traceability in old buffalos living in south west part of Iran

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of complex substances that are produced during incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. PAHs are known to be persistent pollutants which can remain in nature for years. In 1991 during the first Persian Gulf War south west part of Iran was contaminated heavily. This study was undertaken to see if the PAHs can be traceable in animal tissues many...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in livers of California sea otters.

Concentrations of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in livers of 81 adult female sea otters collected along the California coast in 1992-2002. Concentrations of summation operatorPAHs in livers of sea otters were in the range of 588-17400ng/g lipid wt (mean: 3880ng/g, lipid wt). On a wet weight basis, the concentrations ranged from 17 to 1430ng/g (mean: 146ng/g). Overall,...
